Water, Climate and Development Programme for Africa - Support to National Adaptation Planning Processes
The UNDP GEF Team, the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) are organizing a Training of Trainers Workshop on “Economics of Adaptation, Water Security and Climate Resilient Development in Africa” from the 25 to the 29 November 2013 in Addis Ababa. Through joint collaboration with the UNDP-UNEP Led Global Support Programme (NAP-GSP), the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) also contributes to the objectives of the national adaptation planning process aimed at supporting countries to mainstream adaptation in development processes.
The Training of Trainers workshop is the first activity of a Program on economics of adaptation, water security and climate resilient development in Africa, which aims at creating at national level capacity able to use the appropriate economics tools to support robust decision making for water security and climate resilient development investments and making economic cases to high level policy makers on the importance of mainstreaming water security and climate resilience in the development agendas.
The ToT workshop itself aims at: 1) jointly identifying the appropriate economic tools and methodologies for carrying out economic analysis of climate change adaptation and water security initiatives, 2) building capacity of participants on how to efficiently use these economic tools and 3) how to use the results of the economic analysis for making economic cases for the benefits of mainstreaming water security and climate change. The ToT will be followed by in-country training programs and economic analysis that will start from the first quarter of 2014.
