Accelerating Adaptation through Financing Nature
About this webinar
As part of its support to the UN Secretary General led Adaptation Pipeline Accelerator (APA) initiative, UNDP is organizing a series of knowledge exchanges on adaptation finance together with partners. These exchanges aim to facilitate knowledge exchange on accelerating adaptation through emerging experiences in developing countries, exploring available tools and methodologies, best practices and lessons learned.
Climate change is already having negative impacts on the nature and ecosystems. On the other hand, biodiversity and ecosystems play an important role in climate change adaptation, as conserving nature and restoring ecosystems help reduce vulnerability and increase resilience. Recognizing this, around 105 of the revised Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) mention nature-based solutions while almost half of all submitted National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) identified ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) and nature-based solutions among the proposed adaptation measures. Identifying innovative ways to finance these measures will contribute to the achievement of the Paris Agreement, as well as the Global Biodiversity Framework agreement. This webinar provided examples of various financing solutions for nature that contribute to climate change adaptation based on practical experiences of countries.
